Supporting our customers through financial difficulty

At Close Brothers, we aim to support our customers through financial difficulty

If you’ve missed a payment or think you might not be able to pay a future payment, it’s important that you contact us as soon as possible so that we can understand your situation and find the best solution.

We want to reassure you that we may be able to offer support if you’re facing financial difficulties. And don’t worry, discussing your situation will not impact your credit file in any way.

What we will do

When you contact us, we will listen to you to understand your situation. We’ll talk through your finances, including income and expenditure and any financial concerns you may have, in order to agree the way forward.

What support we can offer you

After we’ve discussed your financial position, we may be able to agree a payment arrangement over a specific period of time or over the remaining term of the agreement. Reviewing your income and expenditure will help make sure that any arrangement is affordable.

There may be times where we can’t find a solution and terminating your agreement may be the best outcome, but this is very much a last resort.

The impact on your credit file

Simply talking to us about your financial situation will not impact your credit rating. However, missed payments and any payment arrangements may be recorded for up to 6 years.

Information on your credit file can be obtained from websites such as www.experian.co.uk in the UK or www.centralcreditregister.ie in the Republic of Ireland.

Information Booklet for SMEs in Financial Difficulty (ROI only)

Our booklet sets out specific Close Brothers Commercial Finance procedure for SME customers in the Republic of Ireland and information on the support that we are able to provide you.
